This accomplished picture can be attributed to the artist Chand, who worked for Raj Singh of Junia during the final years of the seventeenth century. The maharaja is shown seated in a howdah atop an elephant silhouetted against a hillside. He is possibly attended by a young prince on horseback and followed by prominent members of his court. Below and peeking over the hill are glimpses of foot soldiers carrying banners. The small state of Junia was located in the Ajmer region in central Rajasthan.
