Going home 2

Whiling away the hours at sea, combat vets returning, Calcutta to NYC, pass the hours aboard packed troop ship. Vets slept in jammed, hot, airless, hold compartments. Bunks were steel frames with canvass sleeping surface, arranged, four deep from deck to overhead with about two feet vertical clearance between bunks. Few complaints were heard because the passengers were going home. Fall 1945
