Dhobi wallah in action. Here is a Calcutta shirt and clothes laundry in operation. The operator gathers the garment in his hands, dips it into the muddy tank water by his legs, then slams it repeatedly again the groove plank at his knees. Already washed clothes hang on lines up on the bank to dry in the sun. Surface of the wash water is covered with a green scum which must constantly be shoved aside by the washerman. Spring, 1945
